Ed has been with New York Life since 2002, and in the financial services industry since 1992. Ed stared his career as a fee-based financial advisor with American Express Financial Advisors (now Ameriprise), was quickly promoted into management, and eventually became a Field Vice President. After joining the Greater Washington General Office of New York Life in 2002, he won the National Recruiter award in 2003, and was the #1 ranked Partner in the country in total unit production at the time he was promoted to Senior Partner in 2005. He was then promoted to the position of Managing Partner of the Baltimore General Office- and during his time in Baltimore (2006-2016), he grew the G.O. from 94th to 32nd in total production.  He was then promoted in 2016 to be the Managing Partner of the Greater Washington General Office, one the largest and most influential G.O.'s in the entire company.

Ed is a member of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA), is a Board Member on the Babe Ruth Foundation and Sports Legends Museum in Baltimore, served on New York Life Managing Partners Advisory Council (MPAC) in 2010-11 as Vice Chairman, and in 2015-16 as President- and also serves on the Community Impact Grant Committee of the New York Life Foundation.

Ed attended the University of Maryland, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Economics. He has also earned the Certified Financial Planner (CFP®), Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC®), Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU®) and Chartered Advisor for Senior Living (CASL®) professional designations.

Ed is an avid sports fan (Orioles and Ravens season ticket holder), coaches his sons' baseball and basketball teams, and he and his wife Paulina (a New York Life Council Agent) reside in Woodstock, MD. with their two sons (ages 10 and 7).

Judy Viccellio recently joined the Greater Washington Office of New York Life where she is now a Partner. She came to New York Life as a multi-year MDRT qualifier with 23 years of experience in Insurance and Financial Services. At her former company, Judy was recognized as the top financial salesperson, and the first woman to qualify for Chairman's Council. She was consistently in the top 1.5% of all Financial Representatives in the country and qualified yearly for their top sales awards. Judy has led numerous sales training workshops and sales skills seminars, and for many years was the owner of Northstar Consultants, an executive recruiting and consulting firm.

Phyllis Thompson, MBA, is a Princeton University graduate with years of experience in management as well as all areas of financial services. Having joined New York Life in 2011, Phyllis is now a Partner in The Greater Washington General Office, one of the top 250 sales offices worldwide. She likes the name recognition of the New York Life brand, the stellar reputation of the company for well over a century, and New York Life's financial commitment to policyholders.

Phyllis has earned numerous awards in her career, including Premier Executive Council, Annuity Elite, and MDRT. Phyllis leverages her expertise to help other Agents achieve comparable success at New York Life, a mutual insurance company committed its Agents by providing training, resources, and leadership.

Satchie Carvounis, a graduate of Emory University, joined the Greater Washington Office in April of 2013.  She has 18 years of experience in sales management and training and in a prior sales management position, developed a sales force of 90 people and earned 18 sales awards. In another prior sales position, Satchie was the Client Service Specialist and then Regional Manager of a full-service self-directed IRA administrator.  What she liked most about her job was educating prospective clients about the benefits of self-directing their retirement investments.  As a Regional Manager, she was a speaker on financial topics, specifically on real estate investing, in the National Real Estate Investor Associations and RE investor clubs in MD, DC, VA, WV, NJ, TX, LA, CA and HI, as well as the Financial Planners of NY in Manhattan.  She has been a commercial real estate investor since 2006.

When the opportunity arose with New York Life, Satchie knew her past sales management and training, as well as her experience as a speaker on financial topics around the country, would be a perfect match with the training, culture and reputation of New York Life.  She has earned two Executive Councils and Annuity Elite with New York Life.  The best part of her job is the deep satisfaction she gets from attracting high caliber individuals and providing them with mentorship and leadership to develop them into strong, successful Financial Service Professionals.  Satchie is married and lives with her husband, three parrots and their dog in Montgomery County.  They have two grown daughters and a granddaughter and enjoy the mountains and the beach, travelling to the Caribbean, baseball, and cooking together.

Ariel Rodriguez Mercado was born and raised in Puerto Rico. After retiring from a professional volleyball career of sixteen years he and his family moved to Maryland in 2010 where he began his career in insurance. Ariel joined the New York Life Family in 2013 as a recruiter for the Hispanic Market. He quickly established himself as a strong team leader with an unique ability to recognize and build a successful team of agents.  Ariel's hard work, determination, high ethical standards and genuine concern for all those he works with and meets is just a few of the reasons for his success.  Ariel is currently a Partner in the Greater Washington office and is building a strong team of entrepreneurial individuals who are looking for a successful future within New York Life.

Ariel and his wife Anissa have three daughters and currently live in Frederick,MD.

Mac is a graduate of the College of William and Mary and earned a Master's in Education from George Mason University. He is a founding trustee of the Meredith Foundation, a charitable organization based in Washington, D.C., whose goal is to “Nurture the Soul Through Music.”

Mac joined New York Life as an agent with the Washington General Office in 1983 after 14 years as a high school Biology Teacher. Mac was a consistent Executive Council agent and in 1990, he became Trainer in the Washington General Office and is now Director of Development in the Greater Washington General Office. His responsibilities include Training Program Coordinator through NYLIC University; consulting and assisting with case preparation; and field, individual, and group support of both new and experienced agents.

He resides in Arlington, Virginia, with his wife, Victoria.

Dominique joined New York Life's Greater Detroit Office in 2008 as an agent. Before transitioning into management, she qualified for the Life Career Success Award, Life Career Producer Award, Council in 2009, 2010, and 2011 and was a Life All Star. Her involvement in numerous nonprofit and community organizations has driven her passion for this business. In the fall of 2011, Dominique joined the management team in Roanoke as an Associate Sales Development Manager. Since then, Dominique also had the opportunity to assist in training and development in Greater Atlanta, Orlando, Columbus, Greater Detroit, Charlotte and Savannah.

Dominique joined in the Greater Washington team in 2013 and is currently a Senior Sales Development Manager in the Greater Washington General Office. Some of her responsibilities include partner development new org development, implementing NYLIC University, case development with new and established agents, marketing and retention.

Al Johnson began his career with New York Life in 2009 after a long career in the Luxury Automobile Industry.  That year Al got off to a fast start being named “Rookie of the Year” in the Greater Washington office.

He also won Career Life Success, Career Life Producer Awards, and achieved Executive Council his first full year in the business.

In 2011, Al became a Partner with the office, and returned to the field in 2013, becoming an Investment Advisor Representative with Eagle Strategies.

In 2014, Al qualified for and joined MDRT (Million Dollar Roundtable).

Achieving Executive Council or EC Premier each of his years in the field has been a highlight of Al's career.  He prides himself on having a holistic planning philosophy, ad brings to the table a great blend of insurance and investment knowledge.

Says Al, “Developing, and helping to bring out the best in others have always been passions of mine. I am glad to have the opportunity to pursue those passions here at home in Greater Washington.”

Al resides in Laurel, MD with his wife Sailis and son Clarkson.  When not working, he can be found spending time with his family, or on the golf course.

Chris Cuneo is the Corporate Vice President in charge of Administration and Service for the Greater Washington General Office.  He oversees both the New Business and Administration areas of the office, which help support 13 agency managers and over 200 career agents.

Chris Joined New York Life in September of 1996, beginning his career as a temp in the Baltimore General Office.   After over a year and half working in the Baltimore as both a temp and a career agent, he entered the Administrative Manager trainee program in June of 1998, relocating to the Greater Atlanta General Office.

In April of 1999, Chris was promoted to the administrative manager position in Greenville, SC where he spent 3 years crafting his skills.  After 3 years in Greenville, Chris transferred again, this time become the Director of Operations of the Central Georgia General Office.   In 2006, Chris was named Administrative Manager of the Year.

Chris was promoted to AVP in charge of Administration in August of 2006 in the Greater Washington General Office.  In 2009, Chris was promoted to CVP in charge of administration.

Chris has a Bachelors degree from Salisbury (MD) University and has earned both his FLMI and ACS designations since joining New York Life.

Chris currently resides in Manchester, MD with his wife Jennifer and their two children Catherine and Will.  Chris enjoys spending his down time coaching his son's baseball and basketball teams, golfing and traveling.



Latino Market Manager

As the Latino Market Manager for the New York Life Greater Washington Office, Laura Languidey is responsible for attracting and hiring top sales talent to serve the financial needs of the Latino community within the DC metro area. She was born and raised in Bolivia and has lived in America for ten years.

Laura started at New York Life as a Financial Representative serving the Latino community in the D.C. area making Executive Council in her first year as an agent. After one year of finding success as financial representative, she was promoted to the Greater Washington Latino Market Manager.

Laura is an Alum of Metropolitana University and holds her Masters in Business Administration with an emphasis in business managements. She is married with two boys and loves volunteering for her church as well as local Latino community efforts.

Scott Potoma is the Senior Agency Standards Consultant in charge of standards and supervision for the Greater Washington General Office.

Scott joined New York Life in September of 2003 from his prior firm with 10 years of  industry experience.  He holds a Series 7, Series 63, Series 65, Series 66 and the Series 24 license.

Scott has a Bachelors degree from Salisbury (MD) University and a Juris Doctor degree from Tulane University.

Scott currently resides in Columbia, MD. He enjoys spending his down time attending his children's lacrosse and field hockey games, reading, gardening and cooking.
